Ralph Deppey Ball, age 85, of Morning Sun, died Monday morning, July 25, 1988, at the Morning Sun Care Center, Morning Sun.

He was born September 16, 1902, in Marshall Township, Louisa County, the son of John and Amelia Deppey Ball. He married J. Audrey Thompson December 5, 1927, at Wapello

Ralph Ball began teaching school at age 18 at the Orchard Grove and Otter Creek county schools in Louisa County for three years. Then he farmed most of his life. He also thoroughly enjoyed trapping as a hobby especially after retiring from farming. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wapello, and the Louisa County Farm Bureau.

Funeral services for Mr. Ball were at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Wapello United Methodist Church with Rev. George Yetter officiating. Phyllis McCulley was the organist.

Casket bearers were grandsons Dana, Keith, Chris, Mike, Glen, Ray and Jim Ball. Flower attendants were granddaughters Laura Jean Yarger, Helen Ann Ball, Deon Everett, Charla Jerome, Barbara Anderson, and Joe Beth Simmons.

Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, was in charge of arrangements. There is a memorial fund established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Wapello Cemetery.

Ralph Ball is survived by his wife, Audrey; three sons, Laurence of Centerville, John Elmer of Mediapolis, and Jerry of Morning Sun; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Esther, and one brother, Henry.
