John McMahill, 93, was found dead at his home at Grandview Thursday.

Investigating officers found $2,852 in his pockets.

Dr. J.H. Chiltum of Wapello, acting as Louisa County Corner in the absence of Corner Victor Stacy, said death was due to natural causes. He said the aged man had been dead at least 24 hours.

Chiltum and Deputy Sheriff George Oaks were called to Grandview by Ralph Cross, a neighbor of McMahill. The body was found by George Ashby, who notified Cross.

Ashby went to the house to investigate when neighbors reported they had not seen McMahill, who was known to be ailing, for a few days. McMahill lived alone.

The body was taken to the Dudgeon Funeral Home in Wapello.

Last rites were conducted Friday afternoon at the funeral home. The Rev. Caleb Larson of Grandview officiated, and burial was in Harrison Cemetery.

McMahill was born in Illinois, in Henderson County, on Aug 25, 1862. Most of his live was spent in Louisa County. He had been a widower since Nov. 1, 1938. Several brothers and sisters died previously.
