Henry Burdette Allen, 81, formerly of Burlington and rural Morning Sun, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Integrated Health Services at Mediapolis.

Henry Burdette Allen was the son of Henry and Hallie Hooper Allen, born Feburary 9, 1919, near Winfield. He married Melba G. Wykert on February 14, 1947, at Burlington.

Henry was a graduate of Winfield High School and served in the US Army during WW-II. He was of the Methodist faith, had served as the Marshall Township Clerk, and was the caretaker of the Cairo Cemetery for several years.

Henry was a farmer and also a rural mail carrier for Winfield for several years. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening, especially working with flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Melba, of Burlington; a son, Jerre Allen of Oakville; five nieces; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John; and a brother, Jack.

A graveside service was held Monday at the Cairo Cemetery, with Rev. John Gaulke officiating. The body was cremated.

The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Mediapolis has provided the care and arrangements.
