Dewey TOLAND, Former Letts Rural Mail Carrier, Called By Death

Dewey Fredrick TOLAND, of Letts died at 5:25 a.m. June 16, 1970, at Muscatine General Hospital after a lingering illness, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 17 days.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Letts United Methodist Church, with Rev. Richard Eis officiating.

Mrs. George Crist was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Richard Salemink and Mrs. Beulah Austin. Casket bearers were Wilbert Cox, Harold Cox, Richard Paine, Lloyd Crumly, James Thompson and Richard Salemink.

Burial was in Letts Cemetery in charge of Stacy-Lewis Funeral Service.

Born August 29, 1894, at Letts he was the son of Franklin P. and Lydia M. EDGINGTON-TOLAND. He was a life resident of the area.

Dewey TOLAND married the former Ida Mabel RHYNER, December 31, 1921 at Muscatine. He was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church; a veteran of World War I. He was a retired mail carrier.

Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Mabel TOLAND; two daughters, Mrs. Max (Yvonne) HAFNER and Mrs. Lyle (Connie) STINEMAN, both of Letts; one sister, Mrs Velma DOUGLASS, Muscatine; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and his parents.
