Services held for Hamilton

Roger B. HAMILTON, 60, of 1200 Lynwood Drive, Burlington, died Thursday, May 19, 1988, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

Born September 13, 1927, in Crawforsville, he was the son of Dascal and Ella Isom HAMILTON. He married Joanne GAUMNITZ October 7, 1950, in Evanston, Illinois. He was the nephew of Mrs. Alice Peters of Columbus Junction.

A graduate of Crawfordsville High School, he earned a bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College, a master's degree from the University of Iowa and attended the University of Chicago. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was employed as dean of student services with Southeastern Community College for 20 years. He previously taught and coached in the Danville and Bennett school districts, and was assistant principal at Horace Mann Middle School and principal at James Madison Middle School before going to SCC. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, the Burlington Rotary Club, the Lobrary Board and the Iowa Community College Student Services Board. He was a past member of the YM/YWCA Board.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy (Kevin) Laughlin, Middletown; and Mrs. Janis (Nathan) Steele, Westminster, Colorado; one son, Michael HAMILTON, West Des Moines; his parents, Crawforsville; one sister, Mrs. Dickey Joan (Donald) Peterson, Olds; and three grandchildren.

The service for Mr. Hamilton was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 1988, at the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington with the Rev. David Lukov officiating. Music was by organist, Ruth Ann Hanger. Casket bearers were Rober Alberts, Dr. Donald Allgood, John Cavanah, Harry Fricke, Donald Peterson and Stephen Venghaus. Burial was in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington.

A memorial has been established for Southeastern Community College.

Arrangements for the services were by Lunning Chapel, Burlington.
