Bessie Ball

Bessie Maude Ball, 95, of Wapello, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at Community Care of America at Mediapolis.

Born Oct. 13, 1901, at Nelson, Neb., she was the daughter of Samuel C. and Addie Mitchell Hall. On March 4, 1926, she married Merle D. Ball at Columbus City. He died Nov. 23, 1993.

Mrs. Ball was a homemaker and farmed with her husband west of Wapello.

She lived in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma before her family moved to Iowa in 1915. She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years at Wapello.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty McCulley and JoAnne Campbell, both of Wapello, and Lois Banks of San Antonio; one son, Warren Ball of Wapello; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

The funeral for Mrs. Ball will be 1030 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church at Wapello, with the Revs. John Ling and Judith Shields officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Wapello.

Memorials have been established for United Methodist Churches of Wapello and Oakville.
