Patricia Wilson

Patricia Wilson, 78, of Wapello, died Friday morning, July 20, 2001, at her home.

Born March 17, 1923, in Wapello, she was the daughter of Ora E. and Nellie Anna Pontzius Wilson.

Miss Wilson was a 1940 graduate of Wapello High School and attended Iowa State College in Ames for one year. She then worked at Hanford, Wash., during World War II. She moved to Arizona and attended a beauty school in Phoenix and later graduated from the University of Arizona at Tucson with a degree in home economics.

She became a missionary first to the Navajo Reservation at Window Rock, Ariz., and then to Nome and other Alaskan locations. For many years, she was with the African Evangelical Fellowship at Zambia, Africa, and also did various mission work throughout the United States. She continued for more years with Operation Mobilization in locations like Austria, Ireland and England.

She was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church at Wapello. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially during her Alaskan missions.

Survivors include two sisters, Lillian Wilson and Effie Wilson, both of Wapello; two nieces; two nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

The body of Miss Wilson has been donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Wapello upon completion of study.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is in charge of arrangements.
