Martin Jess Hoeg, age 77, of Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday morning, November 19, 2006, at the Great River Medical Center at West Burlington, Iowa. The son of Christian Bossen and Ellen Theresa Boysen Hoeg, he was born January 13, 1929 in Louisa County, near Columbus Junction, Iowa. He married Myrtle M. Atherton on October 12, 1952 at Mediapolis, Iowa.

Martin graduated from Wapello High School in 1946. He farmed throughout his life just south of Wapello. They moved in to Wapello in 2005.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Wapello and had held various offices throughout the years. He had served on the Louisa County Soil Conservation Board for 19 years, was an ASCS Committee Member and 4-H County Committee Member and a past member of the Iowa Cattleman's Association, the Iowa Soybean Association, and the Iowa Corngrower's Association. He had served as a Wapello Township Trustee and as a Township Fire Association Treasurer for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; three sons, William & Lanae Hoeg of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Randy & Julie Hoeg of Wapello, and David & Tina Hoeg of Wapello; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral ceremony for Martin Hoeg will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Wapello, with Rev. Chris Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

The family will meet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Wapello.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Wapello Rescue Unit.
