John Herbert Korn 1919 - 2006

John Herbert Korn, age 87, of Wapello, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, September 21, 2006, at the Great River Medical Center at West Burlington, Iowa. The son of John Austin and Lula Elizabeth Kemper Korn, he was born March 10, 1919 at Wapello. He married Ida Mae Adams on June 28, 1945 at Muscatine, Iowa.

John graduated from Wapello High School in 1939. He served in the US Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. He farmed in the Wapello area.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello, the American Legion, and the Louisa County Farm Bureau.

He was a remarkable cook having cooked in his military service and for a few years following in the Burlington area as well as for his family throughout his lifetime. He thoroughly enjoyed farming and gardening and was a devoted father, husband, and Christian.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae; a son, Brian & Paulette Korn of Dallas, Georgia; two granddaughters, Angela Marie Hinman and Teresa K. Adams; three great grandchildren, Jake Robison, Jessica Hinman, and Lisa Hinman; and a brother, Charles Austin Korn of Logan, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; and a sister, Mabel Sandeen.

The funeral ceremony for John Korn will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, September 25, 2006, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello where the family will meet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service.
