Delbert Eugene Buffington, age 69, of Wapello, Iowa, died Tuesday afternoon, September 7, 2004, at his home. The son of Kenneth and Dorothy Peters Buffington, he was born February 24, 1935 at Columbus Junction. He married Dorothy Woodruff on March 6, 1954 at Cairo, Iowa.

Delbert graduated from Wyman High School in 1953. He was a farmer and had worked at the Farmer's Elevator & Exchange at Wapello for several years.

He had coached little league and was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed his farming and was a collector of John Deere relics. He had enjoyed harness horse racing and doing woodcrafts.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Michael & Janet Buffington of Wapello, Jeffrey & Sandee Buffington of Antwerp, Ohio, Keith & Janet Buffington of Mt. Pleasant, and LeRoy & Tammy Buffington of Morning Sun; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kenneth.

The graveside service for Delbert Buffington will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 10, 2004, at the Fulton Cairo Cemetery, rural Morning Sun, with his nephew, Rev. Kendall Hughes officiating.

Friends may call from noon to 8:00 PM on Thursday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello where the family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Great River Hospice or a charity of choice.

The honorary attendants were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kevin Buffington, Kimberly Broughton, Kristy Buffington, Andy Buffington, Alex Buffington, Bryon Buffington, Chad Buffington, Jennifer Buffington, Jessica Buffington, Jackie Buffington, Jeremy Buffington, Shantel Neubauer, Jayden Jackson, and Mackenzie Green.
