Mildred Lucille Austin, age 87, of Wapello, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, December 21, 2004, at the Great River Medical Center at West Burlington, Iowa. The daughter of Otto Ferl and Margaret Jane McKeever McConahay, she was born December 24, 1916 at Morning Sun. She married Glenn Jacob Westfall. She later married Harold Austin on August 20, 1950 at Cairo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1999.

Mildred attended school at Morning Sun. She had been a member of the Fairview Community Church. She was a homemaker and had enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Westfall of Wapello; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; her son, Ferl Westfall; an infant daughter, Margaret Jane Westfall; and her brother, Hollis McConahay.

The funeral ceremony for Mildred Austin will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 23, 2004, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, with Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.

Friends may call from noon to 6:00 PM on Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Thursday.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Oakville Responders and the Wapello Rescue Unit.

The casket bearers included Dwight McIntyre, Rome McIntyre, Warren Wilson, Burton Samuels, Don Adkisson, and Dale Enger. Honorary bearers were Howard Hayes, Bill Hayes, Harold Hayes, and Doug Hayes. Flower attendants included Patsy Wilson and Carol McIntyre.
