Mary Alice Witek

The gates of Heaven opened to welcome one of God's children.

Mary Alice Witek (Pogemiller) passed away peacefully on June 30, 2006, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

She was born in rural Wapello, the daughter of Earl and Harriett (Baird) Pogemiller. In her early childhood she was baptized and became a child of God.

Mary graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1944. She was inspired to choose a career that would make it possible to be kind and helpful to those in affliction. Soon after graduation she enrolled in the Burlington Protestant Hospital nursing program. She graduated in 1948. In 1976 she retired from her chosen profession. She was an active member in The Village Church (Lutheran) in Lacombe, La., until Alzheimer's disease began to change her life. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, honesty, a commitment to hard work and a passionate love for her family.

She was preceded in death by both parents and 3 sisters, Blanche Davis, Norma Staley and Dorothy Griffin. She is survived by 3 sisters, Betty Harsh of Morning Sun, Joanne Moard of Chandler, Az., and Earleen Henry of LaGrange, Ga. Her body has been cremated as she had wished. Graveside services will be held at a later time. Interment will be in rural Morning Sun in Sharon Cemetery.
