DOZEN ARRESTED FOR GAMBLING

LETTS YOUTHS FIGURE IN LOUISA COUNTY PROSECUTION

Pleas of Guilty are Entered By a Number Who are Arrested Charged With Gambling.

(Journal's Special Service.)
Wapello, Ia., April 10. - With more than a dozen warrants already served the Louisa county authorities are still searching for parties against whom true bills were lodged by the April grand jury. Today some twelve or more offenders have been hailed into court to answer to the indictments returned against them. A majority of these were arrested on the charge of gambling, the wholesale apprehension following some interesting games which were staged at this place some time ago. With the serving of the warrants came a few surprises as a number of men well known throughout Louisa county were included in the list of those charged with this offense. The latter part of last week witnessed the arrest of ten Wapello and Lettsville, Iowa, defendants charged with gaming and betting. Pleas of guilty were entered in each case and in all but one of the instances a fine of $25 and costs was assessed by Judge Smyth. Those who were fined in this amount are Harry Kelly, of Wapello, William Cline, William Reddick, William Daiey, Max Lieberknecht, Charles Stump, Jimmie Stump, and "Bud" Jacobs of or near Letts, Howard Kelley was fined $50., as he faced this charge for a second time. Everett Williams was also held on the gaming charge.

Others indicted and arrested were Floyd Almondinger, charged, with seduction to which a plea of not guilty was entered; Verne Marshall, charged with the violation of the liquour laws and Luther Folmer charged with the sale of intoxicating liquors.
