POPULAR LETTS COUPLE UNITED IN MARRIAGE LAST EVENING

At the beautiful country home of the bride's father, James Turkington, near Letts, Ia., at 8:30 o'clock last evening was performed the marriage of their daughter, Miss Nellie May to John Leroy Hildebrand, a prominent young man of Letts, Ia. Rev. W.A. Longnecker, pastor of the Methodist church at that place, officiated. The marriage was a great surprise to all the friends of the popular young people, as even those present at the house were at the opinion that the gathering was merely a social one. No wedding invitations were issued, the affair being supposed to be an informal reception given by the bride. Rev. Longnecker and the immediated relatives of the contracting parties knew of the intentions of the young people, however, and promptly at 8:30 the bridal party marched into the main parlor and before their many friends present realized what was taking place the young people were untied in the bonds of matrimony. Congratulations were then in order and an excellent wedding supper was served. The house was tastily decorated with cut flowers and potted plants. In the parlor red and white carnations were used almost exclusively and the effect was a very pretty one. The wedding march was played by Miss Inez McLane, of Rock Valley, Ill., and the ceremony was witnessed by about twenty relatives and friends. Both young people are very well known throughout this part of the county and their many friends will be greatly pleased to hear of their marriage.

The bride is a graduate of the Columbus Junction high school and is very popular in her chosen circle of friends. The groom conducts a barber shop at Letts and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Hildebrand, of near Letts. The newly married couple will make their future home at Letts. Out of town guests at the marriage were Miss Inez McLane, of Rock Valley, Ill., Fern Thompson and Grace Richey, of Monmouth, Ill.

Note: Photos of the couple are found in the LCHS scrapbook
