PRAIRIEBURG - Mathias "Mike" J. Lawrence, 86, Prairieburg, died Wednesday evening, April 8, at John McDonald hospital, Monticello.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Prairieburg, on Saturday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Ivan Boyd and Marcus Lawrence conducted the service. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery.

Pallbearers included grandsons, Donald Lawrence, Richard Lawrence, L. Michael Lawrence, Loras Lawrence, Clement Lawrence and Robert E. Lawrence, jr.

He was born April 10, 1883, son of John and Barbara Stock Lawrence, rural Prairieburg. He was married Jan. 26, 1909, to Frances Rose Lasack, at Sacred Heart church, Oxford Junction. They lived on a farm near Prairieburg until retiring to town 12 years ago. They also operated a grocery store in Prairieburg with the help of two granddaughters.

Survivors include three sons, Wesley, Coggon; Robert, Monticello; and Carl, Prairieburg; a brother, John A. Lawrence, Oxford Junction; 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. 17, 1970.
