Funeral services for Mrs. Charles DeWald were held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Yocom chapel, conducted by the Rev. W.E. Fisher, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
Lydia Ellen Gillilan, daughter of Absolam and Sarah Gillilan, was born Sept. 11, 1867 on a farm near Springville. She was the youngest of a family of twelve children. On February 22, 1887, she was married to Charles L. DeWald. Their first home was on a farm in the neighborhood of Springville. Later they moved to Marion where they have since resided. They were the parents of four children, all of whom survive.
Mrs. DeWald was active in several organizations. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, Marion chapter, No. 183, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Grove City Rebekah lodge, No. 35 and the Past Noble Grand association.
While she had been in ill health for several years, she had been confined to her bed only two weeks. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Slauson and Mrs. Ralph Smith, both of Marion, and two sons, Donald DeWald of Marion and Will DeWald of Cedar Rapids.
