Services for Charles Lyman DeWald, 84, who died Friday at Waterloo, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at the Yocom chapel by the Rev. C.V.R. DeJong.
Miss Pluma Terrill will be soloist. Members of Osceola lodge will assist in the services at the grave in Oak Shade cemetery. Pall bearers will be Mr. De Wald's grandsons: Fred and Robert Smith, Glenn DeWald, Ivan Hand, Charles Slauson and Ollie Cochran.
Mr. DeWald was born July 24, 1864, on a farm in Delaware county. He was the last of 13 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob DeWald. He was married Feb. 22, 1887, at Marion to Lydia Ellen Gillilan. Mr. and Mrs. DeWald built the residence at 550 Eighth avenue and Mrs. DeWald died there in 1935. For 25 years Mr. De Wald was superintendent of construction for the Iowa Railway and Light Company and he was a stationary engineer for the Milwaukee railroad for 20 years. He retired 10 years ago and had resided in Waterloo the last five years.
He was a member of the Marion Presbyterian church; a 50-year member of Osceola lodge 18, I.O.O.F.; a member of Centennial Encampment, Grove City Rebekah lodge and Marion Canton No. 7. For many years he was a member of a volunteer fire company.
Surviving are two sons, William A. and Donald DeWald, both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Smith of Waterloo and Mrs. Hazel Slauson of Marion; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the chapel.
Members of the Odd Fellow lodge will meet at the chapel at 3:45 p.m. Monday to attend the services.
