Death of Joseph Scott {this part of the paper is very hard to read}
Joseph G. Scott, a lifetime resident of the community, died at his home ???southeast of the city Sunday afternoon. He had been fading in ??? for about two months, but ???? ill only a ?? Mr. sCott was born on a farm in the Linn Grove neighborhood, February 16, 1848, only a few miles from the farm home where his death occurred. In 1871, he was married to Myra Canedy, and nine children were born to them, John W., of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Wm. Beach, of Walker, Mrs. J.R. Ives, of Marion, Mrs. W.L. Bigger of near Marion, Thomas, who lives on the home farm, Jess, Lester, and Gerald, all of whom are on farms in the vicinity. One child died in infancy. His wife, eight children and eleven grandchildren survive.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home, with the Rev. Smith of the Martin's Creek church, in charge. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery, in Marion.
