W.G. Harding, 82, retired farmer, died last evening at 7:10 in his home at 1108 Sixth street following an illness of ten weeks duration. The second child of Isaac and Louisa Harding, he was born May 23, 1847, in Philadelphia. He is the last surviving member of a family of three boys and two girls. When he was a young man he came west, settling in Linn county, where he had lived for more than fifty years. He was engaged in farming until he retired fifteen years ago and moved to Marion.
Mr. Harding was married Sept. 3, 1883, at Gertrude Elizabeth Mette of Cedar Rapids, and to them were born four children. Mr. Harding had been a member of the Presbyterian church since childhood. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. E.T. Batchelder of Ruskin, Fla., Miss Ella A. Harding, Marion, and one son, William L., at home; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One daughter, Gertrude T. Harding, died six years ago.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the family home. The Rev. William C. Perdew will officiate and burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
