Private Ira F. Hook, United States infantry, was killed in action in the Southwest Pacific area Nov. 28, according to a telegram received by his mother, Mrs. Ida Bowers, 604 Fifteenth avenue SW, from the war department.
Born in Cedar Rapids Jan. 17, 1920, Private Hook attended Lincoln and Wilson schools. He was employed by the Wilson company until he went into service Jan. 5, 1942.
He went to Australia in April, and the last letter his mother received from him was dated Nov. 9.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, who lives at 1106 Fifteenth avenue SE; his father, Fred Hook, of Rock Island; a sister, Mrs. Fern Harris, 606 First avenue NE, and a grandfather, Al Hook, also of Cedar Rapids.
