Betty Jane Eiler Reade, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died
on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at her home. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Betty, under "photos and videos or media," starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11.
Betty was born on Jan. 16, 1932, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Earl and Adebah (Habhab) Rank. She was first married to Robert Graves in 1950, and together they had three children. The couple later divorced. Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Eiler in 1967, and together they had one child. Kenneth passed away in 1995. She then married Charles "Chuck" Reade in 1999; Chuck passed away in 2013. Betty worked for Rockwell Collins and Purolator Courier. She also worked security for the US Cellular Center. Betty volunteered as a ticket taker for University of Iowa football and basketball games. While volunteering for the University of Iowa, she met Chuck. She was a devoted Hawkeyes fan. Betty was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, El Kahir Shrine Ladies Auxiliary and the East Iowa Heirloom Quilters. She loved to travel and spent her winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. Betty enjoyed quilting and spending time with family.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Prouty (Kim Bean) of Cedar Rapids, Deborah Graves of Lisbon, Iowa, Heidi (Rick) Brown of Cedar Rapids and Todd (Kim) Eiler of Brooklyn, Iowa; stepchildren, Penny Fest and Graydon Reade; grandchildren, Kristin, Amy (Jesse), Jodie (Jason), David, Ricky, Ryan (Kelsey), Zach, Kylie, Bailey and Marisa; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her best friend, protector and travel partner Charley, her beloved Cava-Tzu.
Special care was given to Betty by her great-granddaughters, Kimberlin, Morgan and Jaden; and her "baby honeys," her two great-great-granddaughters, Kinsley and Ellie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouses, Kenneth Eiler and Chuck Reade; granddaughter, Jennifer Faulkner; and great-granddaughter, Emily Smith.
Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice or the El Kahir Shrine Ladies Auxiliary.
