Louis Touro, age 79, died this morning at his home four miles north of Marion, following a short illness. He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., Oct. 8, 1848. His mother died when he was three years old.
At the age of 10 he began work as a canal driver on the Erie canal. In 1867 he came west, to Dubuque, where he made his home with an uncle, and he came to Marion in 1876. He was married, Feb. 15, 1877, to Lucille Roy, and to this union were born four children Fred, Henry, George and Katherine. He was a member of the Presbyterian church since 1877. His widow and children survive him.
Funeral services will be conducted at the family home by the Rev. W.E. Fisher pastor of the Presbyterian church Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
