Marion Weekly Sentinel Thursday November 10, 1921
Floyd Sargeant, a well known farmer, died Saturday morning at his home a quarter of a mile east of town. His death was due to injuries received about three weeks before, when he was hauling sand. The team ran away and the wagon, loaded with sand, passed over Mr. Sargeant, breaking both legs. From the first his condition was regarded as serious.
Mr. Sargeant had just passed his sixty-first birthday, October 26, but with his son, was still active in the operating of his farm. He was a man held in high regard by all who knew him, and his untimely death brought sorrow to the community. His wife, a son Paul, and a daughter, Gladys, survive and mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father.
Floyd P. Sargeant was the only child of Dianthus and Harriet Russell Sargeant, and was born in Troy, Pa. in 1860. When a lad the family came to Iowa locating in Johnson county and for forty years lived on the farm near Marion. Mr. Sargeant was married to Miss Alice Mae Markley and two children Paul Russell and Gladys Mae were born to them. Mr. Sargeant was a faithful member of the Methodist church and at the time of his death was a member of the official board.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the home with the Rev. A. H. Hanscom in charge. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
