From the Marion Sentinel Thursday January 21, 1892
Herman Foster, a retired capitalist of Marion, died at the home of his son, Isaac, at Spencer, Clay County, Iowa, last Friday, the 15th inst. The remains were brought to Marion Saturday and funeral services held at 3 o'clock p.m. Monday, at the residence of his granddaughter, Mrs. Geo. W. Toms, which was conducted by Rev. A.S. Marshall. Mr. Foster was born in Memphis, N.Y., Nov. 24, 1808, and was 83 years old at the time of his death. He moved to Marion, Iowa, in September, 1867, and has made this city his home since that time. He leaves two brothers, Russel Foster, of Memphis, N.Y. and Sepha Foster, of Three Oaks, Mich., one sister, Mrs. Laura Warner, of Brighton, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Cardell of this city, and two sons Isaac Foster of Spencer, and Joel Foster, of Buda, Ill. Nothwithstanding Mr. Foster's advanced years, he possessed apparently a strong constitution, and his death was a surprise to Marion people.
