The Marion Sentinel Thursday March 21, 1912
Obituary of Mrs. Charlotte Reichard.
Charlotte Christina Benedict was born near Chambersburg, Franklin county, Pa., July 18, 1828, where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to J. George Reichard, June 4, 1846, and lived for many years near her native home. In 1856 they moved to Marion, Iowa, where they made their future home, having lived on a farm for several years, then moved to town where they settled down. Their family consisted of two children, Benjamin R. Reichard of the Fairfield Lumber company, and Mrs. J.B. Brown, both of this city, the husband and father having died several years ago.
Mrs. Reichard was converted and joined the United Brethren church when fifteen years of age and in the winter of 1857, when her husband was converted, they both united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Marion, and were faithful members of the same throughout life.
Mrs. Reichard was a very active Christian woman and church worker, and was always found in her place in the public and social services of the house of God whenever her health permitted. She seldom missed in her attendance in the Sunday school and prayer meeting services, and always helped in whatever there was to be done in the affairs of the church. She was also greatly interested in the sick and the needy, and was on hand to render any assistance she could. For six years of more her health had been gradually failing, and for about five years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J.B. Brown, where she peacefully passed away on the morning of March 14, 1912, being nearly 84 years of age.
She is survived by her two children, Benjamin R. Reichard and Mrs. J.B. Brown, her ten grand-children, and fifteen great grand-children. The funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.B. Brown, on Saturday, March 16, and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. S.R. Beatty of the Methodist church. The body was taken to Oak Shade cemetery for interment. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community.
