Mr. A.J. Burke died in Chicago, yesterday. He was a son of Mrs. Mary Burke of Marion. He learned the printers trade in the REGISTER office, and later was the editor of the Olin Recorder. Many Marion friends will regret his untimely death. Appendicitis.

Mrs. Mary Burke received a telegram last Thursday morning announcing the death of her son, Augustus J. Burke, which occurred the evening before at Saint Anthony hospital in Rockford, Ill., where an operation had been performed for appendicitis. The remains were taken to Olin, Iowa, where the funeral was held, interment taking place in the Olin cemetery, alongside his infant son. The relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were as follows: Mr. and mrs. Harry J. Burke, Mrs. G.N. Oakley, Ralph Burke and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Laas, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Mary Burke, Mrs. Mary Wood, A.B. McKean and Jay McKean, of Marion.
Augustus J. Burke, son of John and Mary Burke, was born in Saint Joseph, Mich., March 25, 1855, and died Nov. 14, 1906, in Rockford, Ill. When but a lad he with his parents came to Marion, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, learning the printer's trade in the Marion Register office, which trade he followed till he had to give it up on account of ill health. For several years he was the owner and publisher of the Recorder at Olin Iowa, where he was quite successful, and also served as postmaster of that town. Dec. 25, 1876, the deceased was married to Miss Electa McKean, daughter of the late A.J. McKean, of Marion. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive him, his wife having died while they lived in Olin. He leaves his three children--Harry J. and Ralph, who live in Chicago, and Mrs. Ellen Palmer, of Rockford, Ill., --his mother and sister, Mrs. Mary Wood, of this city, and sister, Mrs. Geo. N. Oakley, of Chicago.
