George N. Oakley, a native of Pennsylvania and long a Marion resident, died at the family home, 519 Ninth street, Wednesday, following a paralytic stroke. Mr. Oakley was born July 22, 1858[sic] at Austin, Penn., but moved to Marion in his youth. He was married June 18, 1879 to Ada M. Burke, who with a daughter, Mrs. Harvey Hanson, of Chicago, survives.
For many years the family lived in Marion. Mr. Oakley was at one time in business here and was also employed by the Milwaukee railroad. About thirty years ago the Oakley's moved to Dade City, Fla., and later to Chicago, where they lived until three years ago. Since that time Mr. and Mrs. Oakley have lived at the present address. Mr. Oakley was a charter member of the local I.O.O.F. lodge. He was a kindly man who made friends easily.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 at the Yocom chapel with Dr. W.E. Fisher, pastor of the Presbyterian church, in charge.
