The Marion Sentinel Thursday July 9, 1903
Death of John Adams.
The death of John Adams occured[sic] last Saturday morning, July 4th, at his late residence in Marion, of Bright's disease, after an illness of several weeks. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the house, Rev. T.M. Evans, of the M.E. church officiating, of which church the diceased[sic] had been a member since 1892.
John Adams was born in Frederick City, Maryland, March 31, 1848. He came to Iowa in 1869, and was married to Frances Drake at Winthrop, Iowa, Dec. 19 of that year. By this union seven children were born, three of whom died in infancy. Those who survive him are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. C.G. Brown, who resides with her husband and two children at Pocatello, Idaho, and Mrs. F.W. Senninger, who, with her husband and two children resides in Marion, and two sons, Charles H., of Little Falls, Minn., and Harold C., who lives with his mother. Mr. Adams came to Marion seventeen years ago last March, and was for a number of years engaged in the restaurant business. At the time of his death and for the past few years he attended to the telephone in the county clerk's office, and made many friends among the lawyers, and those who had business with the county clerk or judge. In this work he was conscientious, painstaking and patient, never giving way to temper under the most trying circumstances. He made himself acquainted with the cases docketed, and by so doing kept the attorney's well informed by 'phone. He was considered indispensable, and was relied on by the lawyers as perfectly honest, fair and candid. He enjoyed hearing and telling a good story, and when feeling his best was constantly joking with those he came in contact. During his late illness he has been greatly missed especially around the court house, where he generally was during health.
