Marion Sentinel on Thursday February 1, 1940:
CENTRAL CITY--John F. Sullivan, a former resident of Central City, Coggon neighborhood, died Friday at the home of his son, William of Plainfield, with whom he has made his home these last few years. He was born at Elgin, Illinois, May 25, 1854, and at the age of 24 years came to Linn county. He was married in 1878 to Sarah Andrews, who died in 1923. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Fannie Leatherman of Bethlehem, Penn., Mrs. Eva Price of Cedar Rapids, his son, 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Laura Karress, lives at Elgin, Ill. Funeral services were held Monday at the Spring Grove church and burial was in the Spring Grove cemetery.
