Bessie E. Nielsen, 66, of 820 27th Street, a lifelong resident of Marion, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 1979, in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a sudden illness.
She was born the daughter of Richard O. and Mabel Knapp Pinch on Sept. 14, 1913, at Prairieburg, Iowa.
On June 19, 1931, at Marion, she was married to Marvin E. Nielsen, who passed away Dec. 26, 1970, at Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Nielsen was a graduate of Marion High School and was employed at the Danish Maid Bakery for six years, until retiring in 1978. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, King's Daughters, Rebekah Lodge and the Marion Business Girls.
Surviving are her mother, Mabel Pinch of Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Mary Lou) Matthews of Tucson, Ariz. and Mrs. Don (Carolyn) Fredericksen of Marion; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leo Pinch of El Monte, Calif., Harry Pinch of Omaha, Ark., Richard Pinch of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Roy Pinch of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Max (Edith) Davis of Marion, and Mrs. Ruth Tharp of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, David and Steven, and a brother, Ralph Pinch.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 31, 1979, at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Conducted by the Rev. Glen W. Lamb. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park. A Memorial Fund has been established.
