James A. Clark, 71, died suddenly at 2 p.m. Sunday at his home, 465 E avenue NW. Born at Zanesville, Ind., June 17, 1871, he had been a resident of Cedar Rapids for 31 years. Formerly employed as a locomotive engineer on the Rock Island railroad and as a stationary engineer by the Milwaukee road, he retired in 1935.
Surviving are eight sons, William, Frank, Arthur D., Rodney D., Elmer and Harold of Cedar Rapids, James G. of Oregon, Carl C. of Camp Barkeley, Texas, and Leon D. of California; two daughters, Rowena Clark and Mrs. Genefee Cook, Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Nan Smuts, Zanesville, Mrs. Mary Fulghum and Mrs. Nellie Naive of Fort Wayne, Ind., and 19 grandchildren. A son, Ralph, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held in the Beatty chapel at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may call at the chapel after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
