Mrs. John L. Allen
Mrs. Lucinda Stevens Allen whose death occured August 13th, and whose funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Rev. T.M. Evans, officiating, was born in Ticonderoga, New York, January 15th, 1828. February 16th, 1845 she was married to John L. Allen at Hague, Warren county, New York. In 1887 they came west and located in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Eleven years thereafter they came to Prairieburg, and five years later to Marion. Her age was 77 years, 6 months and 3 days.
They had one daughter, Mrs. Arion Allen at whose home the funeral services were held. During the year following her marriage she united with the Methodist church, retaining her membership until her death.
She was a woman of fine intellect and splendid character. Her husband, one of Iowa's best citizens survives her.
