Obituary of Mrs. Mary Jones.
Mrs. Mary Jones was born in Delaware county, Maryland, February 22, 1822. She was united in marriage to Mr. John Jones in Ohio, September 29, 1842, when they came and settled in Iowa. Their family consisted of seven children, Merritt and William A., deceased; Mrs. William Heizer; Mrs. B.R. Reichard; Addison Jones; Mrs. David Gilmore and J.E. Jones.
Mrs. Jones was left a widow when her children were quite young, but she kept them together and raised her family with great credit to herself and to them. She was a good business woman, and was always industrious, although quiet and retiring. She was also a Christian woman, having joined the church in 1840.
As age came on she was still devoted to her children, and was a great student of the Bible and was always busy doing some useful thing. She made her plans for the future and was quietly waiting for the call to the better life. Her end came peacefully in the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Gilmore, where she fell asleep in her chair at the close of life's day.
The funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Ben R. Reichard, her daughter, and were conducted by Rev. S.R. Beatty, her pastor, and the interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
