Marion Sentinel Thursday October 8, 1908
Death of Mrs. W.G. Erwin
The deceased, Martha Emily Wallace, was born on the 24th day of May, 1836, at South Salem, Ohio, and died in Marion, Iowa, Oct. 1st, 1908, coming to Marion with her parents in 1847 and settling a mile north of town, where she lived until her marriage in 1861 to Mr. W.G. Erwin. To this union were born three children--the son, Harley living on the home farm, and Jennie and Lou at home. She also leaves two grandchildren, two brothers, John and David Wallace, living near Marion, and a sister, Mrs. J.B> Ives, living in town. She survived her husband less than a year and a half. She was a faithful consistent member of the Presbyterian church since early womanhood and a very patient sufferer for many years--as inspiration to all who knew her.
The funeral was held last Friday at the Presbyterian church, being conducted by Rev. J.A. Smith, the pastor. A quartet consisting of Miss Blanche Goudy, Mrs. Benj. Bulkley, J.M. Thompson and Will Sebern furnished the music. The pall bearers were J.D. Robinson, J.W. Bowman, C.C. Dye, Arthur Taube, W.T. Jackson, Ed Fernow, W.B. Sebern and W.W. Vaughn.
