Obituary.
IDA MAY PORTLOCK.
Ida May Portlock was born in Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa, June 5, 1865, and died in Iowa City, November 3, 1905, aged 40 years, 4 months and 28 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan[sic] Portlock and was the seventh of a family of nine children, all of whom have passed to the home beyond except one sister, Mrs. Clara Lessard, and one brother, Monroe Portlock, who are left to mourn her departure. She moved to Linn county when one year old. At the age of twenty-one she professed her faith in her Saviour and united with the Baptist church at Marion, of which she has ever been a faithful member. Her's was a beautiful faith and in her last hours she still clung to Jesus. She knew that her hours on earth were numbered and was thoroughly reconciled as she repeatedly said she was going home to see Jesus. Her sister and three children, Bertha, Howard and Eden, were at her bedside a short time before she died. She bade them goodbye and said she was going soon to see Jesus, and she would meet them all in Heaven. She was a patient sufferer and thoughtful of those who card for her. We know that she has passed to her reward, where there is no more sorrow or suffering, but we know she did not cross to the other shore alone, for in her last moments she sang:
No never alone, no never alone.
He promised never to leave me.
Never to leave me alone.
The funeral services were conducted from the home of her sister, Mrs. Chas. Lessard, Nov. 5th. by her pastor, Rev. S.P. Shaw. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
