DIED--In Marion, on the 9th last, HENRY AUGUSTUS, son of Mr. Augustus and Mrs. Eliza E. Blackmar, aged one year and three months.
"Suffer little children and forbid them not to come unto me, for such is the kingdom of heaven."==Matt. 19, 14.
Fond mother, ye who've seen like me,
Your only darling die,
Oh, ye alone can only fell,
How deep my agony.
Ye know the grief, too great for tears,
The nights that, bring no rest,
For yet have missed the little hand
That nestled in your breast.
The loving face, so beautiful,
That on your pillow lay,
The lips that dropped sweet kisses down,
Quick as the dawn of day.
And oh! to hear the chilling rain,
And think that precious form,
That ever slept in my embrace,
So tenderly, so warm,
Lies in the grave, ah me! the grave,
With damp earth o'er him lain.
And through the long and sleepless nights,
Above him falls the rain.
My God, lift up my sinking heart,
Come quickly, or I die!
And raise it from the clay, the grave,
Oh! lift it to the sky.
And tell me that from every storm
Secure my child doth rest,
Oh! show me that dear little form,
Safe pillowed in Thy breast!
