CENTRAL CITY--Herman R. Sigmund, lifelong resident of the Central City and Waubeek communities, died here Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edna Smith.
Mr. Sigmund was born near Central City Oct. 5, 1864. He was married to Sarah Bruce in November 1884, and they farmed until 1915 and then moved to a small acreage near town. Mrs. Sigmund died in 1931. Mr. Sigmund retired and moved into town ten years ago.
He had served on the town council and was a charter member of the Knights of Pythias lodge. He attended the first Linn county settlers' reunion in 1889 and had missed only three reunions since.
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a brother, Paul Sigmund, Cedar Rapids. His son, Jay G. Sigmund, a well-known poet, died in 1937.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church, with burial in Mt. Clark cemetery. The body is at the Passmore funeral home.
