MARY ROBINSON.
The funeral of the late Mary Robinson was held from the residence two miles northwest of Marion, Saturday, Nov. 15, 1902. A very large company of friends were present. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Walter H. Reynolds, who spoke comforting words to the sorrowing relatives. The text used was James 4-14. "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the Morrow." For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then walketh away.
The music was furnished by a quartet, composed of the following: Mrs. W.B. Sebern, Miss Anna Singer, Mr. Max Voris, Mr. J.M. Thompson, with Miss Marshall, organist. The pall bearers were Messrs. J.W. Bowman, Will T. Jackson, J.C. Fulkerson, C.C. Dye, Will Vaughn and Fred Fernow. Interment in Oak Shade cemetery. The following obituary was read by Rev. Reynolds:
Mary Ann Robinson, daughter of John and Elizabeth Robinson, was born in Dryden, Tomkins[sic] county, New York, Dec. 30, 1866. Her parents removed to Marion when she was but one year old so that almost her entire life has been lived in this place. Here she died Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 1902. She was a graduate of the Marion High school class of 1884. She studied at Coe college for a time, without, however, completing the course. She then took up the work of teaching and for sixteen years she has been a faithful teacher in the public schools of Linn county. Her home was her haven of rest and joy. She was quiet and loving. Her disposition was sensitive. She was a loving sister and dutiful daughter. She tenderly loved little children. The supreme love of life with her as with all believers was the love she had for her Saviour. She confessed His name in public and was received into the membership of the Presbyterian church of Marion, Aug. 20, 1881. Her service for the Master was a willing service. She taught in the Sabbath school and many a lad of her class will hereafter rise up and call her blessed, we are confident. She worked in the Christian Endeavor society. Not only did she speak of her Master in the Sunday school but she endeavored by her example to hold Him up to the contemplation of her scholars in the Sunday school. When she was lying in the languor of approaching death, I read to her the words of Jesus where he says: "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."--and Mary said when she heard these words--that she had only lately had her scholars learn that verse. Like "Mary of old" she chose the better part. Jesus called her. His sweet voice said: "Mary," and she responded: "Rabbi--my Lord and my God!" She has gone to be with Him forever.
