J. Robinson Is Dead; Funeral Held Sunday
-------------------------------------------
Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Yocom Funeral home for James Robinson, age 73, former Linn county supervisor, who died late Thursday evening after an illness of a year and a half duration. The Rev. W.E. Fisher officiated using [sic]Rev. Fisher officiating using Endured as Seeing Him Who is Invisible." Interment was made in Oak Shade.
James Duncan Robinson, son of John and Ellen Robinson, was born at Dryden, New York, March 22, 1858. He came with his parents in infancy to Marion, Iowa, where he spent his life. He attended the country schools and the Marion High School, graduating with the class of 1875. He taught school for a time and was Secretary of the Marion Township schools forty years. He served as Township Assessor a number of years and as County Supervisor two terms, during which the new Court House was built and equipped.
He united with the Presbyterian Church of Marion in 187(?) and was always faithful and efficient worker of the church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday School, and in various capacities in the church. He gave witness to the power of God in his life and of the faith which he loved.
James was the oldest of a family of three girls and one boy, one sister, Henrietta only remains, who with him kept the home. After the death of their sister, Mrs. Ben Gill, the made a home for her two children, Mary, Mrs. Edward Vaughn of Duluth, Minn., and John on the home.
His father came from Argyleshire, Scotland to America in 1839, and afterward to Marion, Iowa, where he lived a useful and worthy life.
Mr. Robinson was highly esteemed by the many who knew him, for his deep convictions, his rugged virtues, and his faithful service to the schools, the church and the county, as well as for his kindly, sympathetic helpfulness that was shown at all times to those about him.
He lives in our memories and his influence abides in our heart and homes. A good man has gone to The Father's House."
