The Marion Sentinel Thursday March 21, 1907
Death of John Robinson.
The death of John Robinson, an old and highly esteemed citizen, occurred Monday, March 18, at his late home northwest of Marion. The deceased had been ill for only a short time with pneumonia. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 from the Presbyterian church, conducted by a former pastor, Rev. R.L. Campbell, president of Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, assisted by Rev. Jennings, the present pastor. The hymns were sung by Mrs. W.B. Sebern, Mrs. B. Bulkley and J.M. Thompson. A large number of friends and neighbors were present to show their respect to the deceased. The following sketch was read:
John Robinson was born in Argyleshire, Scotland, Aug. 15, 1824. He was one of a family of five sons and two daughters. In 1839 he came with his father's family to America, making their home in Tompkins County, New York. In 1857 he came west. On June 16, 1857, he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen S. Adams at Elgin, Ill. Returning to New York state for a time, he came again to the west and located in Marion. After a short time he moved to the farm where he has since lived.
Oct. 31st, 1862, Mrs. Robinson was gathered unto her Heavenly Father. Again he returned to New York. On March 6th, 1866, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Adams in Marion, by the Rev. A.S. Marshall. He is survived by his wife, one son, one daughter and two grandchildren, one son having died in infancy and two daughters during the last four years. On Feb. 3rd, 1877, he united with the Presbyterian church, remaining a faithful and consistent member until his death. Such, in brief, is the outline of a life lived in this community. For years he has been one of the substantial men of the county. Endowed with rare good nature, he was always an enjoyable companion, and the years of his suffering failed to lessen the joyous spirit of his happy heart. As a husband and father he was affectionate and devoted to his home, and many happy memories linger of the genuine hospitality of his household.
