Carl McGowan Services Saturday
Carl V. McGowan, 40, 569 W. Eighth ave. died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in an Iowa City hospital after an illness of several weeks.
He was born at Marion on Nov. 19, 1909, the son of Harley and Ruba Gates McGowan. A lifelong resident of Marion, he was graduated from the Marion high school with the class of 1928. He was employed as a carpenter for the Milwaukee Road for eleven years until 1945 when he went with the Cedar Rapids Auto Supply Co. At the time of his death he was foreman of the parts supply.
McGowan was a member of the Calvary Baptist church of Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by a son Gerald at home and by his mother of Marion. His father died May 24, 1947. He also leaves two brothers; Glenn of Burlingotn and Thomas E. of Marion, and five sisters; Miss Ellyn and Mrs. Edith Byse of Marion, Mrs. Ruby Gessner, Covina, Calif., Mrs. Julia Adee, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Alice Olson of Chicago.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Yocom-Murdoch Chapel by Rev. Rodney C. Gould of the Calvary Baptist church, Cedar Rapids. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery. Pallbearers were Melvin Hanson, Merle Paul, D.H. Moran, Leo McGowan, Clifford Shearer and Paul Ewart. Robert Hanson was the soloist.
