Mrs. G.W. McElwain
Violet L. McElwain, 59, of 3408 Circle drive NE, died Tuesday following a long illness. She had been a Cedar Rapids resident for 50 years.
Born Oct. 11, 1909, at West Union, she was married to Gerald W. McElwain Dec. 7, 1935, at Tipton. For the last 8 1/2 years she was employed at Collins Radio Co., and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1362.
Surviving are her husband, a son, Prof. Fredrick Spratt of Saratoga, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Emil Vohoska and Mrs. Joe Slavik, both of Cedar Rapids, and 3 grandchildren.
Memorial services: 1 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Donald T. Caspers of the Lovely Lane United Methodist church. Burial: Cedar Memorial. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial funeral home after noon Wednesday and at the Chapel of Memories after 9 a.m. Thursday.
