Dr. Edward F. Kopecky, 56, of 44th street and Mount Vernon Road SE, a lifelong Cedar Rapids resident, died Wednesday in a local hospital, following a sudden illness. Born April 30, 1922, at Cedar Rapids, he was married to Lois Van Vliet June 20, 1944, in Pella. Dr. Kopecky was graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine in 1946 and has had a medical practice in Cedar Rapids for the last 27 years. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a submarine medical officer. Dr. Kopecky was a member of the Linn County Medical Association, the Iowa State Medical Association and the Sokol Society.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Barry Kopecky of Plainfield, Vt.; four daughters, Lisa Anderson, Story City; Sheryl Bergen, Mary Kopecky and Elizabeth Kopecky, all of Cedar Rapids; his father, Vaclav Kopecky, Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Bezdek, Toddville; a brother, Milton Kopecky of California and two grandsons.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Turner Chapel East by the Rev. Allen Van Cleve of Central Park Presbyterian Church. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call at Turner Chapel East until 2:30 p.m. Friday. The casket will not be opened after the service. Friends may, if they wish, contribute to the Heart Fund or the Mercy Hospital Memorial Fund.
