The Marion Register Wednesday November 25, 1904
John Fernow, for many years a citizen of Linn county, died at the home of his nephew, Mr. Ed. Fernow, south-east of Marion, November 11, of cancer. The deceased was born in Buckskin township, Ross county, Ohio, in 1830. The funeral was conducted in the nephew's home by Rev. Campbell, Sabbath afternoon, November 13. A large company of friends and neighbors assembled to pay tribute to the deceased who had always lived a retired and quiet life. He had never married and for many years had lived alone in a small house near Robins Station. Advancing age and diseased commanded him to give up his lonely life and for several months before his death he had received the hospitality and tender care of his nephews in the home...the eldest of them. His remains were laid to rest in Oak Shade cemetery, Marion.
