The Late J.D. Rowe.
------------------------
Fred A. Rowe returned early last Friday morning from Cornwall, Vermont, where he went to accompany the remains of his father, J.D. Rowe, who died near that place on Nov. 30. The funeral occurred Friday afternoon at the former's residence on N. 10th street. Eld. L.M. Starr, pastor of the Christian church, had charge of the services. The following sketch of the life of the deceased was read:
Jesse Durand Rowe was born in Elizabethtown, Essex county, N.Y., Nov. 15, 1831. His early life was spent on a farm. When a young man he learned the carpenters' and joiners' trade, which he afterwards worked at in New York, Vermont and in Marion, Iowa. He was a senior member of the well known contracting firm of J.D. Rose & Son, of Marion, for many years, but after the death of his wife he ceased to be an active member.
On Dec. 27, 1854, he was married to Mary Ann Storrs, who died Dec. 22, 1903. Three children were born to them--Ida May, who died Nov. 5th, 1870, at the age of 15 years; Fred A., and Frank E. Rowe, both of Marion. On Sept. 30th, 1869, he moved from New York and came to Marion--residing in this city ever since. He was a Christian, and for many years he actively associated with the Baptist church.
Being in ill health and longing once more to be among the mountains and valleys of his boyhood days, he left Marion the latter part of August to visit his friends in New York and Vermont. On Nov. 26 he became seriously ill and was a great sufferer, death coming to his relief on Nov. 30, at the home of his sister, Mrs. G.J. Miller, at Cornwall, Vt., at the age of 75 years and 15 days. Besides his two sons, he leaves to mourn his departure, a sister and a brother, Mrs. G.J. Miller and Barlow Rowe, both of Cornwall, Vt.
