The Marion Register Tuesday June 16, 1914
OBITUARY OF MRS. ELIZA BOWMAN.
Eliza Wilson was born near Utica, O., June 15, 1832, and died near Marion, Iowa, June 8, 1914, lacking one week of being 82 years of age. She was the last of a family of six children. On May 13, 1856, she was married to Benjamin Bowman, the same year coming to Marion, and in 1860 they moved to the farm adjoining the present residence. She leaves five children and eight grandchildren. The children are A.W. Bowman, Omaha, Neb; J.W. Bowman, Mrs. H.F. Gill, Mrs. G.F. Strong and Mrs. W.B. Sebern, all of Marion. The grandchildren are Harold L. Bowman, pastor of a Presbyterian church in Colorado; Dale and Walter Strong, Wilbur, Lowell, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Benita Sebern.
Mrs. Bowman was one of the oldest members of the Presbyterian church of Marion, having united in 1856. She has ever since been a very devoted and consistent member, never missing the services of the church unless for some unavoidable reason. She loved her church and Sabbath school. During her recent illness their interests were uppermost in her mind and she expressed regret that she could not attend the services.
Her trust in her Savior never wavered and frequently during her last days she quoted favorite passages of scripture. Mrs. Bowman was of a quiet, unobtrusive disposition, who lived for her home and family. She was like the virtuous woman described by Solomon in the last chapter of Proverbs and her children and grandchildren will rise up and call her blessed. The influence of such a life cannot be estimated. The services were conducted by her pastor, Dr. C.F. Engign, from her late residence near Marion.
