Obituary of L.B. Kramer.
------------------------
Louis Balster Kramer was born in Linn county, Iowa, Feb. 22, 1841, and died in Linn county, Iowa, Jan. 6, 1914, aged 72 years, 10 months and 14 days. He was married to Margaret Paul, Jan. 19, 1862, and to this union were born ten children, five of whom preceded him to that land of fadeless morn where all tears are wiped away and sorrows are never known.
The remaining five children, with his faithful and devoted wife, were at his bedside when the summons came and the little flickering light which was but faintly glimmering went out only to shine more brightly in that far away strand where saints immortal live and where its sun shall never go down.
On Jan. 19, 1912, Mr. and Mrs. Kramer celebrated their golden wedding, there being about 100 guests present to wish them many more years of peace and happiness and comfort together. Mr. Kramer was a member of the Mt. Zion M.E. church, but was not permitted to attend its services regularly on account of ill health, as he was a constant sufferer during the last twenty years of his life, and in that time he hardly knew what a well day was but was always found true and faithful to his Master and lived to praise Him even in the midst of pain and suffering.
About four years ago last April he received a stroke of paralysis, from which he never fully rallied or recovered, and for the last year he was entirely helpless, yet never was heard to complain or to find fault with his lot or circumstances. Mr. Kramer was a man of few words. He was a man who loved his home, and it was his greatest delight to have his children gather at the old home.
He leaves to mourn his loss a faithful, loving and devoted wife, five children, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Kramer was a most devoted and loving husband, a kind and sympathetic father, a good neighbor, a noble citizen and a manly man.
He was a great lover of children. When in the last few weeks of his life he did not seem to recognize older people, he would recognize his little great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted in the Mt. Zion M.E. church, Rev. R. Comyn officiating.
