Lula Newcomb Rites Monday
Lula M. Newcomb, 71, widow of Frank Newcomb, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, Jan. 23, in a Cedar Rapids hospital. She was born the daughter of Charles and Rhoda Hall Wilson Jan. 20, 1891, at Marshalltown. June 15, 1909, at Marshalltown, she was married to Frank Newcomb who passed away Aug. 16, 1959 at Marion. The Newcombs came to Marion in 1914 from Perry. They resided at 758 Ninth st. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Marion and was formerly a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Milwaukee Womans Club.
Surviving are five sons, Charles of Chicago, Fred of Olin, Gerald of Cedar Rapids, Robert of Hammond, Indiana, and Russell of Yermington, Nev.; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis James of Marion; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Floyd Dollarhide of Bushnell, Ill. Preceding her in death were a son, Donald, two daughters, Ruth and Evelyn and two sisters, Grace Elben and Edna Jones.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, conducted by Rev. Ralph E. Baker. Interment, Oak Shade Cemetery.
