Gerald Marion Newcomb, 67, of 202 1/2 Fourth Ave. SW died Wednesday at his home following a long illness.
Born March 20, 1915, at Marion, he was a Cedar Rapids resident most of his life and was married to Evelyn Simon. She preceded him in death. A former employee of Universal Engineering, he served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles Club and Machinist Union 831.
Surviving are four daughters, Betty J. Dray of Hot Springs, Nev., Lois Tucker of Brandon, Janet Meyer of Alexander, Iowa, and Edith Keilholtz of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Frank J. Egan of Marion, Douglas A. Egan of Waterloo and Lawrence B. Newcomb of Cedar Rapids; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert of Hammond, Ind., Charles of Chicago and Russell of Carson City, Nev.; and one sister, Phyllis James of Denver, Colo.
Services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. A. George. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, with military services by American Legion Hanford Post 5. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Saturday.
