Albert J. Burkart, a retired carpenter and father of Charles Burkart of Blairs Ferry Roda, Marion, passed away at 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 at his home in Bradenton, Fla.
He was born the son of Jesse and Sarah Burkart Nov. 25, 1877, in Ohio. He moved to Cedar Rapids at an early age. On April 27, 1900, he married Jennie Gillis in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Burkart retired in 1945 and moved to Florida. He was a charter member of Carpenter's Local No. 308 and a member of the Bradenton Presbyterian church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Jesse of Sand Diego, Cal., Allen of Spokane, Wash., and Charles of Marion; a daughter, Mrs. David Hirschorn of Scarsdale, N.Y., 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted in the Murdoch Chapel in Marion at 1:30 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Jean P. Hauter. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
Charles Burkart is the golf professional at Elmcrest Country club in Cedar Rapids.
